Before an Audi goes into production, the Vehicle Safety Department conducts a whole series of crash tests– up to 30 different types of crash tests including frontal, side, rear-end and offset impacts and rollovers. However, before actual testing, there are computer simulations - virtual crash testing. This method provides important knowledge about the interaction of in the event of a crash. The following are tuned:
- Stiffness of passenger compartment
- Resulting acceleration curves
- Occupant protection systems
The results of all these crash tests form the basis of the continuous development process for the improvement of
passive safety in which not only engineers and scientists but also experts in accident medicine and accident researchers are involved. (See also:
