• Audi and ONE team up to present highlights from 2010 sailing calendar
• Audi IRC Australian Championship to play lead role in coverage
• Four half-hour specials to screen throughout 2010
Audi Australia Pty Ltd has teamed up with top rating digital sport channel, ONE, to present its 2010 Audi IRC Australian Championship series.
Four Audi-exclusive sailing specials will be screened throughout the year following each round of the brand’s national championship series, which is endorsed by the sport’s governing body, Yachting Australia YA.
Audi is the largest corporate sponsor of competitive keelboat racing in Australia, citing the link between high level sailing and the brand’s sporty positioning as an ideal fit. The brand has been heavily involved in Australian sailing since 2005 and each year, thousands of boats and many more sailors compete in Audi-sponsored regattas around the country.
The decision to partner with ONE to exclusively present the national Championship series, the Audi IRC Australian Championship, was based on the company’s desire to bring the sport of sailing to a broader audience, and to encourage more and more boats around Australia to compete in this national series.
Based on a pointscore system, four regattas make up the Championship including:
• Audi Victoria Week (21 – 26 January 2010), organised by Royal Geelong Yacht Club
• Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta (5 – 8 March 2010), organised by Middle Harbour Yacht Club
• Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race (31 July 2010), organised by Cruising Yacht Club of Australia
• Audi Hamilton Island Race Week (20 – 28 August 2010), organised by Hamilton Island Yacht Club
After each event, the corresponding 30 minute special will go to air on ONE, building up to the hard-fought final at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week.
Pitting skilled crews against one another for the Championship title, and a brand new luxury Audi vehicle, makes for dynamic sailing action which is often only visible from the water itself, making this new TV partnership an excellent way to bring the sport of sailing closer to the community.
Confirmed dates include:
Round 1 on 10 February at 10:00pm AEDST
Round 2 on 24 March at 9:00pm AEDST
Rounds 3 and 4 to be advised.
